I’m in My Seventies. I’m Still Building Strength.
There is something powerful about lifting a weight that once felt too heavy or finishing a workout you weren’t sure you could do. Those moments remind me that I still have room to grow. In my seventies, I want strength for the life ahead of me—and I want the way I build it to reflect what I believe.
That is where vegan nutrition and fitness come together.
As a naturopathic physician and certified personal trainer, I bring professional knowledge to this journey. I also bring the experience of living in a body that has presented plenty of challenges. Progress has not always been steady. Yet movement remains one of the most meaningful ways I care for myself, and compassion remains central to how I choose to eat.
Strength starts with nourishment.
A commitment to vegan eating deserves a commitment to feeding ourselves well. For those of us working to build muscle and stay active, that means paying attention to adequate food, protein, and satisfying meals.
Think tofu with vegetables and rice, a hearty lentil bowl, tempeh tucked into a sandwich, or oatmeal paired with soy milk and a protein-rich addition. These are everyday foods we can enjoy and return to. Thoughtful planning also includes a reliable source of vitamin B12 and attention to other essential nutrients.
Then we give our bodies a reason to grow stronger.
I lift weights, cycle, row, and keep learning. I value the measurable improvements, but I also value what they make possible: carrying groceries comfortably, climbing stairs with confidence, and having the capacity to participate in life.
Some days I can push. Other days I need to adjust. Both belong in a sustainable fitness practice.
You don’t need to be an athlete—or already be vegan—to begin. Start with a nourishing meal you enjoy. Learn a strength exercise. Give yourself time to practice, recover, and progress.
My hope is to show what it looks like to keep investing in yourself while living your values. I am still on that journey, and there is room for you here, too.
What would you like to become strong enough to do?
